Be Careful when making On-Line Donations to Charity!
As our world becomes ever more dependent on our electronic devices, giving to charity has followed right along and now many websites allow donors to give gifts to numerous charitable organizations. While most on-line giving platforms like Razoo, Kickstarter, and Network for Good are legitimate, donors should always do their own homework before making any gifts. Currently, there are very few restrictions on these websites and many accept gifts on behalf of the charity without the charity's knowledge. Most also charge a larger fee for the transaction than you might pay if you went directly to the charity's website--often as high as 10%! At CCCF, we like to know our donors and we always want to make sure that we are honoring the donor intent for the gifts they trust us to steward. Donors can go directly to our website and make a gift WITHOUT paying any transaction fees...so ALL of that gift of $1000 that you made to help Cass County will be used for good not just the $900 left after the other site takes their fees. Take a few extra minutes before you hit "submit" and go the charity's own website, or visit www.guidestar.org or www.ir.gov to check the organization's status before making that gift.
