WHO WE ARE...

Community

Let’s talk a little bit about how a foundation works. If you think of United Way as a community checking account, used to pay the daily bills, to provide basic human needs then a community foundation operates a little like a permanent savings plan, providing funds for the unexpected and big purchases. Generous donors establish funds at the Foundation for a variety of charitable purposes. The gifts they entrust to the foundation are professionally invested and the income is then distributed back to the community in the form of scholarships, community grants, and charitable support. The original monies are never invaded---only the income is spendable and then only at rates set by an investment policy committee.
