A Legacy of Nursing

The Lois Jean McCrea Nursing Scholarship Fund, established
in 2013 has received a major gift of more than $190,000 from the estate of Mrs.
McCrea.
The scholarship fund was established by Tom and Lois Jean
McCrea to offer financial support to students who like, Lois Jean and the
McCrea’s two daughters, aspire to become a nurse and serve people. Nursing was
always Lois Jean’s dream and with her generous gift, the Lois Jean McCrea Fund
will help other deserving young students to reach their goals.
Mrs. McCrea was employed as a surgery nurse and later as
Evening Supervisor at Cass County Memorial Hospital. She was also the first school nurse at
Pioneer School Corp., working half days per week calling at Lake Cicott, Lucerne,
Noble Twp., and Royal Center Grade and High Schools each week. Deanna Crispen, CCCF President said, “Mrs.
McCrea was my school nurse and I, like many of the students in her care over
many years, remember her as a loving, compassionate caregiver. Nursing was her
passion and she was very excited to start this scholarship and carry on her
family legacy of nurses.”
